What?
A recently expanded music venue featuring two professional stages, a cafe, and a total capacity of over 1,200 visitors. The venue has grown into one of the most active pop venues in the Euregio, hosting concerts, club nights, festivals and cultural events throughout the year. Nieuwe Nor (which is Dutch for "new jail", named after the first location of the venue, a prison, sixty years ago) is a unique cultural hotspot. The current venue was originally built in 2006 expanding on a previously small cultural café. The venue has an industrial look and feel and is known for its warm and friendly crew. In 2022 the venue was expanded once more, with the construction of a brand new large hall including new facilities for artists and visitors. Our audiences come not only from the Netherlands, but also from neighbouring Belgium and Germany, making Nieuwe Nor a truly international venue. Nieuwe Nor caters to a wide variety of genres and fanbases. From pop to rock, hiphop to a wide selection of electronic and dance music, this venue will make anyone feel welcome.
Where?
Nieuwe Nor is a pop music venue situated in the center of the city of Heerlen in the very south of the Netherlands, in close proximity to both the German (5km to the east) and Belgian (20km to the south and 30 km to the west) border. The venue regularly welcomes audiences from the Netherlands, Belgium and Germany, making it an ideal stop for international touring acts. The venue is situated and subsidized by the municipality of Heerlen, a city with 90,000 inhabitants. The venue serves as the a musical hotspot for the region of Parkstad with 250,000 inhabitants in total. Heerlen is situated in the vicinity of cities such as Aachen (15km), Maastricht (25km) and Liège (50km). Other large Belgian cities with airports like Antwerp/Brussels and the German Ruhr area (with Cologne, Dusseldorf and Dortmund) are an hour's drive away. This gives the venue a unique position for international acts with multi-national fanbases.
